Research Interest

Dr. Abboud has a long-standing interest in neurogenic control of circulation. His studies focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie mechanical activation of baroreceptor neurons, as well as the role of stretch-activated ion channels in the generation of baroreceptor nerve activity in isolated neurons and in transgenic mice. Autonomic regulation of circulation in pathophysiologic states (such as syncope, sleep apnea and hypertension) is also under study. Dr. Abboud directs an interdisciplinary cardiovascular research training program and has served as Director of the Cardiovascular Research Center since 1974.
